Trellised Hoya crassipetiolata (splash)

Disclaimer:

Please note that Hoya crassipetiolata (Splash) is naturally susceptible to edema and leaf discoloration. These markings may look unusual at times, but they are not fungal and have no impact on the plant’s overall health. They’re purely cosmetic and part of the plant’s natural character.

Origin and Description:

Hoya crassipetiolata is a Southeast Asian species admired for its elongated, ovate leaves generously dusted with silver splash patterns. When trained on a clear 12-inch acrylic trellis, its vining habit really shines, creating a beautiful display piece for any collection.

Natural Habitat:

In the wild, this Hoya grows as an epiphyte in tropical forests, where it climbs along trees and enjoys filtered light with warm humidity.

Care Instructions

  • Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Morning sun or filtered afternoon light brings out the best splash variegation. Avoid harsh, direct sun that can scorch leaves.
  • Watering:
Water thoroughly when the medium is nearly dry. Be careful not to overwater, as Hoyas prefer to dry slightly between waterings. Edema spots may occur if the plant takes up water faster than it can process, especially in cooler temps.
  • Humidity:
Prefers moderate to high humidity (60–80%). Will adapt to average household humidity but may grow slower.
  • Temperature:
Ideal range is 65–85°F. Protect from temperatures below 55°F.
  • Soil:
Use a chunky, well-draining mix. A blend of coco husk, coco coir, and a touch of biochar or perlite works beautifully to keep roots healthy.
