Hoya SS43-03 (sulawesiana x sigillatis (alas river))

Origin and Description:

Hoya SS43-03 is a rare hybrid created by Surisa Somadee using Hoya sulawesiana × Hoya sigillatis (Alas River). This hybrid is highly uncommon in cultivation and can be difficult to find, especially as established plants.

The plants we are offering are full, established mother plants rather than small starter cuttings, making them especially desirable for collectors looking for an immediate statement piece.

This hybrid carries a beautiful mix of characteristics from both parents. The foliage is elongated and elegant with subtle splashing and the ability to develop gorgeous sunstressed tones under brighter conditions. Depending on lighting and temperature, the leaves can shift between soft olive greens, bronzy reds, and deeper purplish hues, giving the plant an ever-changing appearance.

The blooms are especially stunning and one of the standout features of this hybrid. In our opinion, this is one of those hybrids where you can clearly see what traits came from each parent. The shape and form of the flowers strongly resemble Hoya sulawesiana, while the rich warm tones and coloration appear heavily influenced by Hoya sigillatis (Alas River). The result is a beautifully colored bloom with soft fuzzy texture and striking contrast.

Natural Habitat:

As a cultivated hybrid, Hoya SS43-03 does not naturally occur in habitat. However, both parent species originate from tropical Southeast Asia, where they grow epiphytically in warm, humid forests with filtered light and strong airflow.

Care Instructions:

• Light:
  Bright, indirect light is ideal. Higher light can encourage beautiful sunstressing on the foliage, though harsh direct afternoon sun should be avoided.

• Watering:
  Allow the medium to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid prolonged soggy conditions.

• Humidity:
  Prefers moderate to high humidity, though it adapts well to household ambient conditions with good airflow.

• Temperature:
  Thrives in warm temperatures between 65–85°F.

• Soil:
  A chunky, airy mix such as coco husk blends works best to maintain healthy roots and proper aeration.
