Hoya sigillatis (round leaves, splash)
The round-leaf, splash clone of Hoya sigillatis stands out for its unique rounder leaf shape and heavy splashing of silver. This particular clone is exceptionally splashy, with silvery markings covering most of the green leaves. This is a result of careful cultivation. When I first received this plant, I specifically cultivated a vine that displayed heavy splashing, and ever since, the plant has maintained its impressive silvery sheen compared to other clones of Hoya sigillatis.
Natural Habitat:
Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly Borneo and Malaysia, Hoya sigillatis thrives in humid environments, growing epiphytically on trees. This clone, like the original species, adapts well to indoor cultivation under the right conditions.
Care Instructions:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. The silver splashes become more prominent in brighter conditions, but direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf burn.
- Watering: Water when the top inch of soil dries out. It is important to avoid overwatering as the plant is sensitive to root rot.
- Humidity: Enjoys high humidity levels (65-85%). Regular misting or using a humidity tray will help maintain adequate moisture.
- Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 60°F and 95°F (15°C to 35°C). Protect from cold drafts and avoid exposure to temperatures below 50°F.
- Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix that includes perlite, orchid bark, and coco husk to ensure proper aeration and drainage.
Fun Fact:
This clone is known for its extra splashy, silvery leaves, a feature that was enhanced through special cultivation. While other Hoya sigillatis clones may show some degree of splashing, this round-leafed variety displays significantly more silver, making it a true standout in any collection.
