Origin and Description:
Hoya (NOID - UPT) is an unidentified species that originally came from Indonesia and was acquired back in 2018 under the simple name “Hoya.” While its exact identity remains unconfirmed, its growth form closely resembles that of Hoya meredithii. It produces broad, textured leaves marked with striking dark veins that stand out beautifully against the green surface. Under filtered light, the leaves can grow massive and develop an elegant, leathery sheen. It’s a fast-growing, vining type that quickly fills out a trellis and adds a lush, tropical presence to any space.

Natural Habitat:
Although the precise origin is unknown, its characteristics suggest it hails from warm, humid forests in Indonesia where Hoyas often climb along tree trunks and branches in dappled light with good airflow.

Light:
Bright, filtered light is ideal. Direct sunlight can dull the veins or burn the leaves, so aim for a spot that mimics a forest canopy environment.

Watering:
Allow the mix to dry out between waterings. It prefers a consistent but moderate rhythm rather than constantly moist conditions.

Humidity:
Performs beautifully at around 60% humidity but adapts well to typical household conditions. Higher humidity encourages larger leaves and more vigorous growth.

Temperature:
Tolerates 50–60°F without issue but thrives best in warm, temperate environments.

Soil:
Use a well-aerated mix with excellent drainage. A combination of chunky coco husk, bark, and perlite works well to keep roots happy.

Fertilizer:
Feed during the active growing season, but avoid heavy fertilization if you want to maintain the rich contrast between leaf veins and surface color.

Growth Habit:
This Hoya grows fast and loves to climb, so provide a trellis early on. With time, it becomes a statement plant with bold, architectural leaves that showcase its unique charm.

Care Needs

Bright diffused light

Recreate conditions under a tree canopy, where plants receive lots of light, but it is filtered through the foliage of the trees above. Your light should be bright enough to cast soft shadows.

Low Humidity: Ideally Above 40%

This Hoya tolerates a drier environment. However, it could still benefit from light humidity care, including misting and grouping together with other houseplants. May require humidifier in cooler, drier months.

Intermediate: Lowest 60F

This hoya does not require high heat, but does not tolerate cold as well as other varieties.

Does Not Sunstress

This plant will not change color under bright light.
