Origin and Description:
Hoya lacunosa (variegated) is a striking variety of the Hoya lacunosa species, distinguished by its silver, curved-in leaves. The leaves have a thick, waxy texture and curve inward, giving them a unique, sculpted appearance. It retains the beloved compact growth habit of the species, and like other lacunosa varieties, it produces clusters of fragrant white flowers.

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf scorch.
  • Watering: Allow the top layer of soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
  • Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60-80%), replicating its natural rainforest environment.
  • Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining, airy mix like orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir to simulate its epiphytic conditions.

Care Needs

Bright diffused light

Recreate conditions under a tree canopy, where plants receive lots of light, but it is filtered through the foliage of the trees above. Your light should be bright enough to cast soft shadows.

Low Humidity: Ideally Above 40%

This Hoya tolerates a drier environment. However, it could still benefit from light humidity care, including misting and grouping together with other houseplants. May require humidifier in cooler, drier months.

Intermediate: Lowest 60F

This hoya does not require high heat, but does not tolerate cold as well as other varieties.

Does Not Sunstress

This plant will not change color under bright light.
