Meet the Hoya caudata (Sumatra)! This Hoya from Southeast Asia boasts splashy ovate leaves with irregular, rippled margins, adding a touch of texture and interest to any room. The leaves are slightly hairy and start out solid green before eventually fading to a rich, dark green. But the real showstopper is the clusters of furry, white, star-shaped flowers that bloom on this Hoya.

Care Needs

Bright diffused light

Recreate conditions under a tree canopy, where plants receive lots of light, but it is filtered through the foliage of the trees above. Your light should be bright enough to cast soft shadows.

Low Humidity: Ideally Above 40%

This Hoya tolerates a drier environment. However, it could still benefit from light humidity care, including misting and grouping together with other houseplants. May require humidifier in cooler, drier months.

Cold Tolerant: Lowest 50F/10C

This hoya will tolerate cooler conditions than most.

Does Sunstress

This plant has evolved to shift color when exposed to bright sunlight, much like a human getting a tan. This does not harm the plant with proper care.

Reviews

"This was my first purchase from UPT. I couldn’t be more thrilled. I gasped at the first peek of the UNDERSIDE of the first leaf I saw. Then again as I realized I was sent one with a peduncle 😭 And then finally at the whole, beautiful, plant. WOW. I thought, ‘did they know this was my first purchase, and therefore, went above and beyond to make it amazing?’ But after reading many other reviews and hearing other’s experience, no, I don’t think so. I think they just might be the best. The packaging was superb 👌 I was so pleasantly surprised by the silica packets, ensuring no rotten-upon-delivery hoyas. The substrate also seemed to have been watered ~a week before shipping which is SO nice. 😮‍💨🙌 But it also wasn’t completely bone dry. Just perfect. Thank you so much. I will absolutely be back!"
